Creativity and New Media

With the introduction of new media, I believe that we as consumers faced more options than ever when it came down to customizing our own experience. We really have full creative freedom in many cases when it comes down to how we want to present ourselves over the internet. This is very prevalent in social media. In a very popular platform, Snapchat, we are able to send videos and pictures to friends in a temporary manner. This means that stuff that is sent through the platform is sent with a timer, allowing the sender to choose however long they want their pictures and videos to be visible for. In the case of the receiver breaking the rules and screen shooting a picture or video, the sender gets a notification. One way we can customize our profiles using this platform is by creating a Bitmoji. This is a virtual avatar that we have extreme lengths of freedom with to customize to our choosing. It allows us to portray ourselves as a character and is used as an identification with our account. When someone adds anyone on Snapchat, one of the first things you see is the Bitmoji they have created for themselves. For my creative expression for this assignment, I choose to show off my Bitmoji. The thing I love about the freedom with this avatar is the fact that many of the options for outfits are things that I've seen myself wearing, pretty often at that. It's almost as if the Bitmoji knew exactly what was in my wardrobe. Please find attached to this post a couple iterations of my Bitmoji that I believe to most accurately show how I personally dress day to day.

    I have a Bitmoji myself and also chose to post about this topic! A Bitmoji is a personalized character we can portray about ourselves as we see fit. It allows for creativity not only in the appearance and creation of it, but also in its use. It provides a new way of communicating with others. In a simple "sticker" sent to someone, not only through Snapchat but throughout other apps as well, we can communicate without using a single word. It also allows to express emotions we are not usually able to communicate through just text. It's amazing how digital media constantly creates new ways for people to express ourselves and communicate.

The internet has grown in many ways people did not see coming. Over the last 20 years, the internet has exploded into an ever-growing organism, evolving to fit every days new wants and needs.
