Blog: Advice

Baruch College can use a lot of work aside from just some implementations of new media. The over crowding of the school is something that cannot be ignored, from the line just to swipe into NVC, to the incredulous wait for the elevators during peak hours, Baruch faced a severe overpopulation problem. However, I believe new media can be used to fix, or at least alleviate some of these issues using psychology. I think the implementation of a regularly updated blog can be used to solve some of the issue of construction at Baruch. As a student, you really cant be sure or believe some of the timelines of these constructions projects at this school, such as the construction in the library, plaza, or the 23rd Street building. A blog would be a medium to share progress on some of these projects. For example, during the elevator fiasco with the 23rd street building where the lines were out the door, a simple progress check would make some students more at ease. A simple "If you're planning on attending a 4:10 class in our 23rd street building, be ready to wait about 20 minutes for an elevator so plan accordingly!" would allow students to know what to expect and to plan accordingly. Another example would be just a simple heads up to the construction schedule. Something along the lines of "Plaza construction is going smoothly and is still expected to be finished by Summer 2020" or "Watch out if you're studying in the library tonight, construction will start at 11:30PM and last for most of the night". Blog posts like these would allow students just to be a little more in the loop and help the overall alleviate the whole ambivalent nature (to the students) of these projects all together.

  1. Hey Brannon, while we currently get emails that alert us of construction around the school, I do think that a blog or some other type of platform can and should be utilized so students can check there to see if construction might affect them. Sometimes the outlook app doesn't update, or we have some other reason for not being able to access our school email. In this case, it'd be beneficial to have a blog to check as an alternative.
